Your Guide for Centered
With 30 years on the mat and over two decades of professional teaching experience, I have guided thousands of classes. My teaching is defined by kindness and compassion, creating a non-judgmental, no pressure “at-home sanctuary” where you can show up for yourself and just try. That’s all that’s required.
I believe that yoga for midlife is about building resilience as we navigate the systemic, seasonal shifts of womanhood. From my studio home base in Apex, North Carolina, I work to ensure that whether you are dealing with a busy mind or a changing body, my goal is to provide the tools that help you access the benefits of yoga, exactly as you are today.
In Centered, I bring my creativity, enthusiasm, and 25+ years of expertise to every session. I revel in watching my students’ growth and am honored to help you feel powerful, stable and at deeply at home in your own skin.
We target the specific metabolic and hormonal shifts of midlife with a combination you won't find in a standard studio class:
Movement: We use conditioning movements to strengthen specific muscle groups providing a much-needed physical anchor during the unpredictability of perimenopause.
Bone & Muscle Integrity: We focus on weight-bearing poses and resistance training to maintain bone density and metabolic health as estrogen levels shift.
Cortisol Regulation: We use specific breathwork to soothe the "fight or flight" response, helping you lower anxiety, stabilize the nervous system, and reclaim your sleep.
Centered offers a "community at home" where the only requirement is showing up exactly as you are.
No Pressure: As in every class I teach, there is zero pressure to perform, no competition, and absolutely no judgment. Every effort counts.
A Safety-First Sanctuary: You get professional, expert guidance in the safety and comfort of your own living room.
Kindness as a Practice: Midlife is a time when our bodies speak a new language; Centered is about listening with kindness—from you, to you.
BOOST
Metabolism & Strength:
We practice sustainable movement to rev up respiratory and circulatory systems, as well as weight-bearing resistance training to boost metabolic health and maintain bone density.
BALANCE
Mobility & Balance:
Functional alignment helps keep your joints stable and your footing sure. We all want to be able to get that jar from the top shelf and open it, maybe even while standing on one leg!
BREATHE
Breath Work & Calm:
Targeted techniques to soothe and regulate the nervous system, manage cortisol and find your center amidst the many shifts that this season of life brings.
F.A.Q.s
What if I'm beyond my 40s?
You are more than welcome here! While the Centered series is titled for women over 40 to highlight the unique shifts of midlife, our community is women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s. If you are seeking a practice that values longevity, strength, as well as stretch and rest, you belong in this group. My 30 years on the mat have taught me that yoga is about meeting your body exactly where it is today—no matter the decade.
I haven't practiced in years, what if I'm not able to do all the poses/movement?
No worries! I can always offer modifications to any of the poses. I'm right there to help and, in all my classes, there's always the option of taking a break! Listening to your body is the most important part of the practice.
I'm self-conscious about being seen. Help?
A big part of the reason my students love yoga at home is that it's private. You're safe in the sanctuary of your own space and once class begins, you're just listening and following my simple cues. Everyone in the class is doing their own practice and no one (other than me!) is looking at the screen. There's no performance, no pressure, no judgement.
Do I need to be flexible?
Nope, definitely not! Come just as you are.
How does this help with all the challenges of peri/menopause?
What's worked for me in this season of life is what I share with my students: A combination of movement to boost metabolism, strength-building to help maintain muscle mass and bone density as well as breathing techniques and guided rest to soothe jagged nervous system and sleep difficulties.
What if my house is messy, my dog/kid/partner interrupts my class?
Yep, all normal! We've all been there. Show up exactly as you are and let the yoga take care of the rest. It works, promise.
