Stepping Onto the Mat: What to Expect in Our 7-Week Centered Series

Jessie Diaz-Perez | MAY 25

Picture this: It’s early evening before dinner here on the East Coast (or right after a late lunch hour on the West Coast), and you’re getting ready for your first online Centered yoga class.

Maybe you clear a spot in your living room or find a cozy corner designated as your personal yoga studio—which, let's be honest, might currently include a dog bed, a pile of laundry, and overdue library books. Or maybe that’s just me.

Even though the day has been hectic ( because most days are) and you had to shuffle your schedule just to take an hour for yourself, you’re showing up.

Maybe you’re even a little bit nervous. What if I feel awkward? What if my joints are too stiff today, or I'm not as flexible as everyone else? But you decide to try, and you show up anyway.

Some days you might just feel yucky. Or exhausted from another night of disrupted sleep. Or overcome by a flash of sudden irritability or brain fog. But you promised yourself you’d take better care of your body and mind during this erratic peri/menopause season, even on the tough days. So, you click the Zoom link.

I swear, even after thirty years on the mat and thousands of classes, the showing up is still the hardest part.

When you enter the Zoom room, you’re greeted by me and my puppy assistant, Angelo. We can chat for a minute, or you can stay quiet and keep your microphone muted if you prefer. Then, everything settles.

We always start very slowly so you can truly arrive into your practice and begin to soothe your nervous system. Together, we build supportive strength, stamina, and balance—protecting your bones and boosting a changing metabolism without overtaxing your nervous system.

At the end of the sequence, you get to rest in savasana—which, as you might know, is the real reason we all love yoga!

Now picture this: rolling up your mat sixty minutes later feeling a little taller, calmer, and reconnected to yourself. The laundry and the library books will still be there, but the weight of the day might feel a little lighter.

All you have to do is show up and try.  Do what you can, exactly as you are today.

Here is a quick look at what our 7 weeks together will look like:

  • The Space: We meet entirely online via Zoom, so you can practice in the comfort of your own home sanctuary.

  • The Time: Seven Wednesdays starting June 24th from 5:30–6:30 PM EST/ 2:30–3:30 PM PST.

  • The Practice: We begin with quiet centering, move into slow, deliberate strength-and-metabolism-building movements and poses, and close with deeper stretches and a long, restorative rest.

  • The Recordings: If you miss a live session or want to repeat a practice that felt really resonant, you will receive a digital recording of every class to keep in your personal Centered library for the duration of the series.

Doors open for registration next week. Keep an eye on your inbox, as spots in our new circle are limited so we can keep our community intimate and intentional.

I can’t wait to welcome you to the mat!

With love,

J
